Morzine In The Winter
As it is a year round town rather than a purpose built ski resort that just opens up in season, it is quite large and has a good selection of bars and restaurants, sports and gifts shops, creperies and patisseries all open til late offering plenty of time for a full days skiing and some shopping in the evening.
For those who don’t ski or snowboard there is plenty on offer in resort: ice-skating; snowshoeing; massage and jacuzzi, visiting the local fruiterie where they show you how they make the cheeses, the weekly local market or on the mountain: walks around the beautiful Lake at Montriond snowshoeing with a local guide; paragliding and skidooing for the adventurous. Further afield Geneva, Chamonix and Annecy are all within an hour and a half drive away.
Morzine Bars & Restaurants
If you dont want to leave the piste then Happy Hours bar at the foot of Ardent telecabine also have DJs every Wednesday night and offer a taxi service back into town.
Looking for something more sophisticated ? Le Coup De Coeur or La Chamade are both very smart wine bars with funky decor & an extensive wine list. After dinner popular choices are the Tibetan Cafe, Dixie Bar, the Cavern and the Coyote and then onto the Opera nightclub if you still have the energy.

Les Gets In The Winter
Les Gets has a distinctly upmarket but friendly feel to it with an impressive array of clothes boutiques, souvenir and ski shops, traditional restaurants and a good selection of bars for some apres ski fun. In the evening the town is bustling and the postcard perfect setting is ensured by the twinkling Christmas lights, the floodlit pistes, snow covered chalets and the outdoor skating rink, right in the town centre.
For those non skiers take a trip up Mont Chery cable car and enjoy the terrific view of Mont Blanc from the restaurant terrace over a long lunch or wander round the many shops in town. A free “toy town” train circuits the village regularly although the town itself is all easily accessible on foot. There is an outdoor market weekly and of course for the more adventurous other activities include snow-shoeing, ice-skating, sledging and paragliding.
Les Gets, Bars And Restaurants
Looking for some for apres ski action straight from the slopes? Then appropriately named is the “Apres Ski Bar” actually on the snow at the bottom of the Chavannes lift in the centre of Les Gets. There is often live music or a DJ, so have a dance or chill out in a sun lounger and soak up the atmosphere.
There is a large choice of local restaurants, some of our favourites are: La Bokka, L’Outa or L’Op Traken.
Montriond in the winter
Montriond is a beautiful alpine hamlet on the edge of Morzine. It sits on the road that takes your directly up to the Ardent telecabine meaning you can be in the heart of the Portes du Soleil in moments. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday whilst still having the entire ski resort of Morzine on your doorstep.
Montriond itself has a little shop, restaurant and popular bar so when you return to your chalet in the evening you’re still able to enjoy some lively apres if you want. Montriond is also home to the stunning Lac Montriond which is beautiful both in winter and summer. The restaurants around the lake stay open throughout the day offering hot drinks, beers and delicious local wines. It’s the perfect place to go for a walk if you fancy a day off the slopes.
Montriond Telecabine Access To Avoriaz
Montriond is a 5 minute drive away from the Ardent telecabine which takes you straight up into the Lindarets bowl. If you stay at Brown Bear Lodge your driver will take you to this lift in the morning and pick you up in the late afternoon to bring you home in time for dinner. If you decide to cut your ski day short, there’s also a regular ski bus that drives straight past the chalet. You really couldn’t be in a better location for reaching the main ski area of the Portes du Soleil.
Similarly, Morzine is only 5 minutes from Montriond if you prefer to ski Morzine and Les Gets when you’re here. If you’re looking for a day away from the slopes you can also walk to Morzine along the river in less than 30 minutes. Montriond, with it’s lovely church, brick buildings and stunning views is an ideal spot for a winter holiday.
