Cross Country Skiing
What is Ski de Fond?
Cross-country skiing, or Ski de Fond (as it’s known in France), involves covering long distances on skis across varied terrain. You’ll follow pre-made tracks or tram lines traversing through some of the region’s most beautiful backcountry routes. It’s a real favourite with people who like a bit of a workout, enjoy seeing a different part of the landscape, and want to do a little less of the speedy downhill stuff.Â
In Morzine and Les Gets, there are some great cross-country trails. Head to the top of the Pleney to follow the route that links the two resorts, or travel further afield to the Super Morzine side and enjoy a long course that skirts around the Zore piste.Â
What you need
We can easily help you arrange a cross-country skiing guide, and all equipment can be hired from shops in town. We use Francois Baud in Morzine, which has a great selection of cross-country skis and gear. In Les Gets, Les Perrieres shop also has plenty of equipment to help those interested in Ski de Fond get up and running.Â
Cross-country skiing isn’t easy and takes a little time to master; however, it's fun, exhilarating and helps you explore a part of the resort that not everybody gets to see. It’s definitely worth it if you are looking for an alternative to downhill skiing, something budget-friendly (the ski passes are cheaper than for downhill) and are up for a classic alpine workout!Â
