Helpful things to know

The Winter Trail usually takes place over a weekend in mid-December. On the first day, the Spartan village is set up in town. Here, you will find the registration tent to collect your bibs, etc., for the event, as well as the Spartan Winter Kids Race trail through the town. Race day is the second day of the weekend. The 21k and 10k races start in the morning, followed by an awards ceremony in the afternoon after all racers are finished.

Visit the Spartan Winter Trail website to register for the 10k or 21k race. Registration for this years event is not currently available as the race and race dates are still to be confirmed.

The race ticket gets you entry to your chosen race and entrance to the Spartan Festival and the associated events. There are aid stations throughout the race as well as an 'After Finish' aid station. As a finisher, you also earn an event medal, with attached trailfecta slice, t-shirt, and of course, huge bragging rights.

The race starts in Morzine, by the tourist centre. Morzine is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Geneva Airport by car or transfer service. Get in touch to hear about our airport transfer service and for more info on our self-catered chalets or apartments, just a short walk to the centre. Stay with us and be in the heart of the action!

It is recommended to wear performance gear, compression bottoms and breathable tops. A special list of mandatory items will be sent to you a few weeks prior to the event. Keep in mind that this is a winter trail and that you will be running at altitude, so adequate protection from the cold conditions will be necessary. Wear comfortable shoes that you have trained in. Bring any water, gels and bars that you want for the race. To receive your race bib, you will need to show your registration barcode, so you must have this printed or saved to your phone.

Experience / Route Details

Trail enthusiasts can choose between a 10km race and a half marathon, both of which take runners across ski slopes and through high-altitude forests. Both runs are traditional trail runs with no obstacles. Expect varied terrain, challenging winter conditions, and spectacular alpine scenery.

There is also a dedicated event for children: the Spartan Winter Kids Race, a mini version of the famous Spartan obstacle course. Young Spartans can test themselves on a specially designed route through the village, taking on fun challenges and obstacles along the way. It's the perfect introduction to the Spartan spirit—and where future Spartans are made.
