No, all of our chalets & apartments are very central to Morzine so getting about on foot to the ski lifts, shops, bars and restaurants is super easy. You can even jump on the petit train if you want to move between the Pleney and Avoriaz ski areas and don’t fancy going through town in your ski boots.
Morzine also operates a free bus service, known as the Navettes. These regular buses run between Morzine, Montriond, Ardent, and Prodains, providing a quick and easy way to access the different parts of the surrounding areas.
For your safety, we recommend travelling with snow chains or snow socks during the winter season, so you are prepared for heavy snowfall.
When driving in winter, ensure your vehicle is fitted with winter tyres. If you are hiring a car from the airport, be sure to request a vehicle equipped with winter tyres and check that snow chains are included.
During the summer months, winter tyres and snow chains are not required.
Our chalets are all either within walking distance of the Pleney or Super Morzine telecabines, or are situated close to the bus stops, where the free shuttle bus service frequently passes to provide easy links to the town centre as well as direct to Pleney, Super Morzine and Prodain telecabines. Â
The only exception to this is Apartments Zolie, Roc D’enfer and Cote D’arbroz, which are all situated in the lovely village of Essert La Pierre. If you are staying in these apartments, you will need a car.
Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest ski areas in Europe. Thanks to the vast size and varied terrain of the Portes du Soleil, there is always excellent skiing to be found throughout the winter season. Morzine's central location within the ski area and its excellent lift links provide easy access to a wide range of slopes at different altitudes, making it an ideal base regardless of snowfall conditions.
Morzine has direct access to the high-altitude resort of Avoriaz at 1,800 metres via shuttle bus and the Super Morzine and Prodains cable cars. From here, you can enjoy Avoriaz's extensive pistes or, with a Portes du Soleil lift pass, continue exploring the wider ski area, including slopes above 2,000 metres. This includes the legendary Swiss Wall, one of the most famous and challenging black runs in the region.
Yes, we can order your lift passes and have them waiting in your chalet for your arrival.Â
We match the official online prices and are happy to advise you on which pass is best for you if you need some guidance. For more information about ski passes, click here or get in touch with us directly via email.Â

Yes, we can! With over 24 years of experience in the area, we have built strong relationships with the local ski schools and are happy to recommend the providers best suited to your needs, whether you're looking for private lessons, group tuition, children's classes, or specialist coaching.
Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area. The Portes du Soleil resort is the second largest ski area in Europe, second to the Three Valleys, and as a result is accessible and suitable to all levels due to its varied and vast network.Â
For beginners, Morzine is an excellent base. The Pleney and Super Morzine cable cars are both centrally located within the village and provide easy access to beginner-friendly ski areas. Le Pleney, in particular, is well equipped for those learning to ski, with magic carpets, a dedicated children's area, and gentle nursery slopes designed to help build confidence.
One of the advantages of learning in Morzine is that you'll be surrounded by plenty of other beginners, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that can make those first days on the slopes feel much less daunting.
To help you get started, there are numerous ski schools in the area. With so many options available, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Drawing on more than 20 years of local experience, we have curated a list of our recommended ski school providers. Take a look here (link to ski school providers).
For intermediate and advanced skiers, Morzine and the wider Portes du Soleil offer an incredible variety of terrain, spectacular mountain scenery, and the opportunity to explore a vast network of interconnected resorts.
Across the Portes du Soleil, you'll find 130 blue runs, 105 red runs, 33 black runs and 30 snow parks, providing endless opportunities to challenge yourself and discover new areas throughout your holiday. Thanks to Morzine's central location within the ski area, these slopes are easily accessible, allowing you to make the most of everything the region has to offer.
For those seeking a challenge, the Portes du Soleil is home to the legendary Swiss Wall (Le Mur Suisse), one of the most famous black runs in the Alps. Renowned for its steep gradient and often challenging moguls, it is considered one of the toughest marked and unpisted runs in Europe.
In a nutshell: The week before Christmas, January, and late March to April are the quietest times on the slopes, where you will get the best deals on accommodation and lift passes.Â
In more detail:
As a general rule, if you are able to travel outside of school holidays, you will benefit from quieter slopes, shorter lift queues, and often lower accommodation and lift pass prices. If you have flexibility with your travel dates and are looking for the best combination of great snow conditions, quieter pistes, and excellent value, consider the following times of year:
The week before Christmas / DecemberÂ
Enjoy a week on the slopes before the Christmas rush. Experience the excitement of the start of the season alongside locals, seasonnaires, and fellow ski enthusiasts who have discovered this hidden gem of a time to visit the Portes du Soleil. With the high-altitude slopes of Avoriaz typically open and ready for the season, it's the perfect opportunity to get those first turns in. This is one of the quietest times of the season to visit. With fewer people on the slopes, lower accommodation and lift pass prices, and freshly groomed pistes, you'll often feel like you have the mountain to yourself.
January
January is often the quietest month of the ski season. While it can be one of the coldest periods of the winter, those colder temperatures often bring fresh snowfall and excellent skiing conditions. You'll benefit from off-peak prices, quieter slopes, and minimal lift queues, while enjoying access to the full Portes du Soleil ski area.
Late March – April
Late March and April are known for their sunnier spring skiing conditions. By this point in the season, the resort has usually built up a substantial snow base, ensuring excellent skiing even during warmer weather. Recent seasons have also delivered fresh snowfall well into spring, creating fantastic conditions throughout the area. Spring skiing offers the best of both worlds: enjoyable temperatures on the slopes and the chance to relax on sunny restaurant terraces with an aperitif while taking in the stunning mountain views. This time of year is also home to popular events such as Snowboxx and Rock the Pistes, bringing an extra buzz and lively atmosphere to the resort.
Yes, Morzine is a great place for a family ski holiday!
Located at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski network, Morzine is particularly well-suited to families and to catering to mixed abilities. The interconnected resort offers easy access to gentle nursery slopes and dedicated learning areas from the Pleney and Super Morzine lifts, with plenty of opportunities to progress onto gentle blue runs. More experienced members of the family can explore an excellent selection of red and black runs across the wider ski area and loop back to meet everyone for lunch.Â
Beyond skiing, Morzine has plenty to keep everyone entertained, including sledging, ice skating, swimming, winter walks, and family-friendly restaurants. The village is easy to get around on foot, with many of our catered and self-catered chalets located close to the lifts, shops, and amenities, making family logistics much simpler.
In a nutshell: The quietest school holiday with the best rates on accommodation and lift passes is the Easter Holidays. February half-term is often the most popular holiday to book as this time of year is known for its reliable snow conditions.Â
In more detail:Â
Families with children tend to be tied to the school holidays. Although these times are peak season and the busiest time on the slopes, the atmosphere and energy are high. The holidays are really happy times to visit, as you can feel the excitement in the air! Everyone is having a good time, what better way to spend a school holiday?Â
Quietest School Holiday - Easter Holidays
Easter is our unsung hero for getting a lot out of the resort; it is snow sure - especially up in Avoriaz, and thanks to it often being overlooked, you can find cheaper accommodation as well as lift pass deals at this time of year. Enjoy quieter slopes and the added bonus of spring sunshine. Think of it as a two-for-one holiday: skiing in the morning and making the most of Morzine's outdoor activities in the afternoon. Whether it's a game of tennis, a paddle session, or simply relaxing in the sunshine, spring is a wonderful time to visit.
Â
Bucket list Holiday - Christmas or New Year's Weeks
The festive weeks in Morzine are magic. Christmas and New Year's are popular times for families to visit, and you will see peak prices on accommodation and passes but! with the crowds come the overwhelming happiness and festive atmosphere of this time of year. It's one of those holidays that you will always remember. Wintery days spent up on the slopes, returning to a cosy chalet, reminiscing about the day's events around a fire with a hot chocolate or vin chaud. For a hassle-free Christmas, why not consider one of our Catered Chalets to experience the merriment of a full Christmas dinner without the stress and clean up!Â
Â
Known for Snow Conditions - February Half Term Â
By February, the resort has usually built up a strong snow base, and the colder temperatures help maintain excellent piste conditions across the Portes du Soleil with some of the most reliable snow conditions of the season. As one of the busiest weeks of the winter season, accommodation tends to book up well in advance, and prices are generally higher than during off-peak periods. However, for many guests, the combination of excellent snow conditions, Morzine's family-friendly facilities, and the excellent choice of ski schools makes it well worth it.Â
Morzine is a fantastic destination for non-skiers, with plenty of activities and experiences to enjoy both in the village and up in the mountains.
Walking and Nature
There is an excellent selection of local walking trails, ranging from gentle strolls to longer hikes, allowing you to explore the beautiful alpine scenery at your own pace.
Some popular routes include:
- Chemin du Renard
- Parc des Dérêches loop

- CrĂŞtes Super Morzine
The free Navette bus services also make it easy to discover more of the surrounding area and access beautiful walking routes further afield:
- Bus M – access to Lac de Montriond
- Bus E – access to L'Erigné
Pedestrian Passes and Activities at Altitude
A pedestrian lift pass is a great option for non-skiers who want to experience the mountains without putting on skis. Spend the day exploring the pistes, enjoying lunch with a view, watching skiers go by, and taking in the incredible panoramic mountain scenery.
There are also plenty of activities and attractions accessible at altitude, including:
- The Nyon Birds of Prey Show, located at the top of the Nyon cable car opposite La Pointe de Nyon
- Sledging areas at the top of the Pleney cable car, in Les Gets, or at the base of Pleney
- Aquariaz aquatic centre

The best ski pass for you depends on your skiing ability, how long you are staying, and how much of the Portes du Soleil you would like to explore.
I’m staying for a week in Morzine
Intermediate and advanced skiers
We recommend the full Portes du Soleil ski pass. With over 600km of interconnected pistes, it gives you the freedom to explore the entire ski area and make the most of the varied terrain and different resorts.Beginner skiers
Your best option depends on where your lessons are based and whether you are a total beginner or beginner to intermediate.ÂIf you are a complete beginner with lessons on the Pleney slopes, a Morzine–Les Gets ski pass is likely all you need. There are plenty of beginner and progression slopes in this area to keep you entertained throughout your stay. If you decide you would like to explore further afield, you can upgrade your pass at any lift office during your holiday and access the full Portes du Soleil area.Â
For more confident beginners, a full Portes du Soleil pass for the week would give you freedom to explore the ski area and the full choice of green and blue slopes.Â
Â
I’m on a short break (3 or 4 days)
Intermediate and advanced skiers
A Morzine–Les Gets pass will give you access to plenty of terrain for a short break. However, if you want maximum flexibility to make the most of the best snow conditions and weather during your stay, we recommend choosing the full Portes du Soleil pass.Beginner skiers
We recommend choosing the ski pass that covers the area where your lessons take place. This should provide more than enough terrain for a short holiday, and you can always upgrade to a full Portes du Soleil pass at a lift office if you decide you would like to explore more.
When skiing or snowboarding, you should have travel insurance that includes specific winter sports cover. This should protect you against the costs associated with accidents and unexpected events while on the mountain.
We recommend checking that your policy includes:
- Medical cover for skiing and snowboarding accidents, including mountain rescue and emergency evacuation
- Off-piste cover, if you plan to ski away from marked pistes (check the policy conditions, as this often requires you to stay within certain areas or follow local guidance)
- Repatriation cover, should you need to return home for medical reasons
- Cover for ski equipment, including your own or rented equipment, in case of loss, theft, or damage
- Cancellation and travel disruption cover, including delays or issues that affect your holiday
It is also worth checking whether your policy covers activities you may take part in outside skiing, such as sledging, snowshoeing, or other winter activities.
Did you know?
You can also add mountain rescue cover (CarrĂ© Neige) for a few euros per day when purchasing your Portes du Soleil lift pass. This is a useful extra for covering rescue costs from the slopes and can make things much simpler if something goes wrong. If you need assistance on the mountain, having CarrĂ© Neige included with your lift pass means you may not need to pay rescue costs upfront, provided you can show proof of your cover at the time of rescue. Please note that this does not replace comprehensive winter sports travel insurance, which provides wider protection for your holiday.Â
Please remember that having suitable insurance is your responsibility, and we recommend arranging your cover before travelling.
Depending on your arrival or departure time, you may be able to fit in a half-day of skiing, and we will do our best to help make this possible.
If you know you would like to ski on arrival or departure day, please let us know in advance. Where possible, we will provide a room for you to change before heading to the slopes or before travelling home. Please note that this will not include access to shower or toilet facilities.
Keep in mind that check-in is from 16:00 and check-out is at 10:00, so you are unlikely to have full access to your chalet outside of these times.
A note on lift pass: For a half-day of skiing, you can purchase a half-day lift pass for your chosen ski area. We recommend getting this 'travel day' pass separately from your full ski pass. Taking the half-day pass on the travel day gives you flexibility in case of any travel delays or changes to your plans, while also saving you from paying for a full day of skiing. Â
Most of our chalets have secure ski storage and heated boot racks, so you can safely store your equipment and enjoy warm boots ready for the next day on the slopes. Check the facilities listed on your chalet page, or get in touch with us directly if you would like to confirm whether your accommodation includes ski storage and boot racks.
Alternatively, many ski rental shops offer free equipment storage, allowing you to leave your skis and boots at the shop rather than carrying them back and forth to your chalet each day.
There are also ski lockers available to hire at the base of the Pleney lift. Each locker can store up to five sets of skis, making this a convenient option for families or groups who want to keep their equipment close to the slopes. Please note that you will need a valid ski pass to book this facility
The early winter season (December, January, and early February) brings colder temperatures and more frequent snowfall, creating excellent skiing conditions. From late February onwards, temperatures begin to rise, with March and April offering the famous sunny days of spring skiing. Snowfall is still common later in the season, so you can enjoy fresh powder alongside warmer weather.Â
Average Temperatures by month:Â
- December: lows of -5°C with highs of 2°C
- January: lows of -6°C with highs of 1°C
- February: lows of -5°C with highs of 3°C
- March: lows of -2°C with highs of 7°C
- April: lows of 1°C with highs of 11°C
Throughout the winter, prolonged periods of rain are uncommon, with most precipitation falling as snow.Â
For accurate and up-to-date weather forecasts, check local TV channels like TF1 and TF2, websites like France Meteo, Swiss Meteo and Snow-Forecast.com, or for a quick snapshot of how things look at altitude, the Morzine webcams can help to give you an idea of how things look up top.Â
Most of our chalets have heated boot dryers, so even on a dry day you will have toastie feet! We have also equipped the chalets with multiple clothes drying racks so all of your kit can be hung up and placed by the radiators overnight ready for the next day’s shredding!
Yes!

Providing delicious food for all our guests is important to us, which is why we put considerable care into ensuring that alternative menu options are just as enjoyable and satisfying as the standard menu.
Please inform us of any dietary requirements or allergies when making your booking, or update them via our online booking platform, so that our hosts can plan and adapt the menu accordingly. To help us manage allergies safely, please state them clearly as allergies. For example, please specify "Nut Allergy" rather than "no nuts" or "doesn't eat nuts".
Yes! Our catered chalet holidays include a glass of fizz that is served with canapes, as well as wine that is served with dinner. Our wines are supplied by Chef Cellar, who have helped us select a pleasing choice of red and white wines for all tastes.Â

For your convenience, our chalet hosts operate an honesty bar in the chalets, which they stock with a selection of beer and soft drinks. You can, of course, supply your own alcohol; Sherpa and Carrefour markets both offer an online service that allows you to do an online shop that you can collect on arrival in the resort. For wine enthusiasts, we recommend ordering from Chef Cellar, who can provide a delivery service directly to your chalet.Â

When making your booking, please let us know about any dietary requirements, allergies, food preferences, or particularly fussy eaters. This helps us ensure that your little ones are happy and well-fed throughout their stay!
Definitely! All our self-catered chalets are within a 10 minute walk from the centre of the village. Alternatively, you can use the Go Morzine app to arrange for a taxi. Â

Yes, our chalet hosts have two days off each week. These are usually on Tuesday and Friday, although the schedule may vary during Christmas week.
One of these days is fully self-catered, while on the other day you will still receive breakfast, with the remainder of the day being self-catered.
Many guests take the opportunity to explore Morzine's fantastic selection of restaurants and bars on our hosts' days off, although pizza delivery is always a popular option too! If you would like recommendations or assistance booking a restaurant, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We highly recommend booking in advance, as restaurants can fill up quickly during the season.
Christmas week: Our chalet hosts work on Christmas Day to serve a full English breakfast and a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Depending on which day Christmas falls, host days off may be adjusted to accommodate this.

One of the highlights of a shared chalet is the atmosphere. It's a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people, swap stories from the day's skiing, share recommendations, and pick up tips on the best runs, restaurants, and places to explore. Many guests enjoy the friendly, relaxed environment and the chance to connect with fellow skiers and snowboarders over the delicious meals prepared by our chalet hosts.
As our shared catered chalets are only available outside of school holiday periods, you will typically be sharing with other adults.Â

The best time to visit Morzine depends on what you are looking to get out of your holiday.
Short answer: June offers the quietest and coolest summer experience, along with lower accommodation rates. However, it is important to check lift and activity opening dates before travelling, as the summer season starts gradually and some facilities are not open at the beginning of the month. July and August are the peak summer months, with full access to the Portes du Soleil network and the widest choice of activities available to book.
June: The quietest of the summer months
Early summer is a lovely time to visit Morzine if you want to enjoy the mountains outside of the peak holiday season. Temperatures are generally cooler than later in the summer, making it an ideal time for hiking, walking, and exploring the trails without needing to set off too early to avoid the heat.
It is worth checking activity opening dates in advance, as June marks the gradual start of the summer season, with some facilities and activities opening later in the month. That said, you’ll never be short of things to do, with plenty of outdoor activities, events, and attractions available throughout the month. Find out more about activities and events here.Â
The Morzine Bike Park lifts typically begin operating in early June on weekends only, before opening daily from mid-June through to mid-September. Check summer lift opening times here. The wider Portes du Soleil lift network usually opens from late June until the end of August, with the popular Pass’Portes du Soleil MTB event taking place over the final weekend of June.
July and August: Summer is in full swing
The peak summer months are when Morzine is at its liveliest. The lifts are fully operational, providing access to the full Portes du Soleil mountain biking network, and the full range of summer activities is available to book.
There is a huge choice of biking, hiking, and alpine adventures to enjoy. The outdoor pools at the Aquatic Centre are open, providing a refreshing spot to cool off in the centre of Morzine, and throughout the summer holidays, the Tourist Office runs a programme of events and activities to keep children entertained.
July and August are a fantastic choice for families looking for a lively mountain holiday with everything available on their doorstep. It is worth checking the event calendar and booking activities in advance to make the most of your stay.

The walk is relatively easy, with minimal elevation gain, although parts of the riverside path can be uneven with loose footing, so we recommend wearing sturdy footwear.

Morzine offers a great balance between a traditional alpine village experience and access to one of the largest ski areas and the largest biking area in Europe. While it is not the cheapest resort, it can offer excellent value for money compared with some of the larger, high-altitude resorts.
Accommodation
One of Morzine’s biggest advantages is the range of accommodation, dining, and activity options available. From self-catered apartments to catered chalets, local restaurants to mountain eateries, there are choices to suit different budgets. There are also ways to make your holiday go further. Booking outside of peak school holiday periods can offer better value, with quieter slopes, lower accommodation prices, and often cheaper lift passes. Choosing a catered chalet can also be a cost-effective option for groups, as it includes breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner, and wine, removing the need to budget for restaurant meals every evening.
Value for money
Morzine also offers excellent value for families, with plenty of free and low-cost activities available. In the winter, you can often find good deals on Easter holiday ski passes, while in summer, the Multi Pass provides access to a wide range of activities for one price.
Food and DrinkÂ
Morzine offers a great choice of restaurants, bars, and cafĂ©s to suit different budgets. Like most Alpine resorts, prices can be higher than you may be used to at home, particularly in mountain restaurants, but there are plenty of options available. As a rough guide:Â
- Lunch options: €10–25 per person, 2 and 3 course formule de jour €17-25
- Mid-range restaurant dinner: €20–40 per personÂ
- Beer: €8, some places have deals during happy hour €5–7
- Wine by the glass: €5–8
- Soft drinks: €3–5
Not to worry! You’re unlikely to need to dust off your GCSE French, as many locals speak excellent English thanks to the large number of international visitors who come to Morzine each year.
That said, making the effort to use a few basic French phrases goes a long way and is a lovely way to show respect and appreciation. Even a simple bonjour, merci, or au revoir is always warmly received.
