Paragliding
Always dreamt of flying? Try paragliding, or parapenting as it's known in France, for a truly unforgettable holiday experience. Paragliding is one of the most popular activities in the area, allowing you to take flight amongst the eagles to get the most spectacular view of Morzine and Les Gets from on high.
See Morzine from above
Paragliding, or parapenting as it’s called in France, is one of the most popular activities here in Morzine. When the weather is good, the sky is a kaleidoscope of multicoloured parachutes, gliding down from the mountains above.
You’ll take off from the super Morzine side of the valley and float down to land at the base of the Pleney, meaning an easy return into the town centre.
Explore Different Ways to Fly
Choose the experience that is right for you, from one-off tandem flights and beginner learn-to-fly courses to improver and specialist courses for more experienced gliders.
Tandem flights are the perfect introduction to paragliding. During a tandem flight, you are paired with an experienced pilot who guides and controls the entire journey. The whole experience, including the shuttle to the take-off point, flight preparation, and the flight itself, lasts around one hour.
Almost anyone can enjoy a tandem flight (I've even known someone in their 80s to do it!), provided you are able to run approximately 10 metres for the take-off. Take-off requires a little courage as you leave the ground; however, once you're in the air, the views are truly breathtaking. The flight itself requires minimal physical effort, as your pilot will manoeuvre the wing and control the descent.
If you know you'd like to try this once-in-a-lifetime aerial experience, it's recommended that you speak with providers before you arrive, or as soon as you do, to discuss the best day to fly. Paragliding is highly weather-dependent, so planning ahead is essential to ensure you don't miss out.
Most local paragliding schools offer beginner-friendly courses. Perfect for those looking to get started in the sport, these instructor-led programmes teach the fundamentals of paragliding in a safe and supportive environment.
Learn to control your wings alongside your instructor on training slopes before progressing towards your first solo paragliding flight in Morzine.
No prior experience is necessary, and all flying equipment is provided. All you need to bring is a desire to fly.
For those with some experience, local schools offer improver courses designed to build confidence and increase flying hours. These courses help you develop your skills as an independent pilot and work towards achieving recognised flying qualifications.
Proof of completing a beginner course is typically required for acceptance onto an improver course.
Experienced pilots who already hold a licence may wish to consider specialist courses to further refine their flying techniques and advance their piloting skills.
For advanced and specialist courses, participants are generally required to hold an initial pilot's licence and have completed a minimum number of flights.
Paragliding is highly weather-dependent, so if you know you'd like to try this once-in-a-lifetime aerial experience, it's recommended that you speak with providers before you arrive (certainly for the learn to fly and advanced courses) or as soon as you arrive for tandem flights, to discuss the best day(s) to fly to ensure that you don't miss out.
