Via Ferrata and Rock Climbing in Morzine

Where Adventure Reaches New Heights

The term “via ferrata” comes from Italian, meaning ‘iron way’. Originally used by the Italian army to move troops and equipment over difficult terrain in the Alps, it has now become a popular recreational activity.

Via Ferrata

Via ferrata involves scrambling or climbing up rock faces using steel rods, rails, steps, and heavy-gauge wire cables embedded in the rock for assistance and security. This allows adventurous hikers to experience the thrill of alpine climbing safely.

Participants clip themselves onto the fixed cable using harnesses and specialist equipment. It is highly recommended to undertake via ferrata with a qualified high mountain guide, and we can easily arrange this for our guests. Participants need to have a head for heights and be over 10 years of age.

There is an excellent via ferrata route in Avoriaz that takes about 2.5 hours to complete. Additionally, in the nearby village of St Jean D’Aulps, there are two routes: a red course and a more challenging black course, offering options for different skill levels.

Rock Climbing

Around Morzine and Les Gets, there’s a fantastic selection of bolted rock climbing routes, perfect for beginner to intermediate climbers. For experienced climbers with their own gear, a guidebook of the routes can be purchased at the tourist office in St Jean D’Aulps. For those who prefer guidance, we can book a rock climbing guide who will provide all the necessary equipment and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Rock climbing is a wonderful activity for the whole family, suitable for children as young as 4 or 5. The area offers a variety of routes, ranging from easy climbs to challenging multi-pitch routes, catering to all skill levels. This makes it an ideal outdoor adventure for everyone to enjoy.
